cReative rut? What to do?

Do you ever get in a cReative rut?
I have people asking me this all the time!
Yes. I do. But, I have some exeRcises & Rules that are sure to get me out of that stressful rut!
I'll share my rules today...the exeRcises will be another day!
Rule No.1~ Girl Time: you just need that girl time bonding...ya know? We are made that way! It's scientifically proven! Read this!

I feel this week has been so amazingly creative for me, on many different levels! From lunch with Margie & Liz to meeting new people & being with
friends that get you....all creative. all fill you up. all magically delicious!
I love that creative rush, ya know? Just
being with other creative women gets my creative juices flowing! so...make girl time for yourself & your friends.

Rule No. 2~ InspiRation trip: I have to have these. They are a must.
every.
day.
But, it's not possible to take a trip every day, so do what you can to gain the visual inspiration & mental stimulation your creativity needs.

read. **blogs, books, magazines, quotes....anything to spark your creativity!
look. **around you, @ your home, @ stores, @ billboards, @ blogs....it's there!
search. **for the hidden. the unknown. the undiscovered.
gather. **make an inspiration file. colors. textures. ideas. photos. words. quotes.
consume. **feast on everything mentally & visually.

I love to blog hop. I love to read other inspiring words. Check this out! #1. Quinn said some very kind things (thanks, sweets) but, #2. she also said some very true things!

All too often, most of us live intimidated by what we think other people want us to be or do. Honestly, though, we serve the world best by being ourselves and letting our true selves shine through. Oprah didn’t become the icon “Oprah” by being what she was expected to be or by her copying what someone else had done. Cindy Crawford didn’t become a famous super-model because she looked exactly like an already famous super-model. Martha Stewart didn’t become a house-hold name by being intimidated of what other’s might think of her passion. Each of these icons broke the mold. They let their true selves out and it was ONLY by being themselves and going after their passions and living with creativity and risk that they are where and who they are today.

What could you do today to express your true self? Would it be buying that jewelry piece that you love but wonder if it’s just not “you?” What about carving out some time to let your dreams & creativity run wild? You are the only version of you ever and we need you to be you!!!

Quinn Curtis founder Created by Mom

& just by blog hopping, reading & consuming...don't you feel inspired?

Rule No. 3~ Just Do It: This is it. Just create.
something.
every day.
We do this everyday in our daily routines...creating something that wasn't there before. Whether it's a meal, a report, a photo, a garden, a walk, an artistic endeavor...creating is in us. It is what we do each day. We create our lives around us.
And, by just DOING IT, we create more & more & get our creative juices flowing.

I got going on a whole slew of family reunion tees the other day to get my creative juices flowing & out of a rut!
creative supplies:
iron
ink jet iron on transfer paper
tee shirts
Hof3 July No. 4 Digital Kit

creative steps:
computer~
1. Open colored PNG files.
2. drag & drop onto an 8x10 canvas to fit as many on as you can.
3. flip horizontally so they will read right once they are ironed on.
4. print.

ironing~
1. follow transfer paper manufacturer's instructions.
2. cut out.
3. iron on.
4. peel off.

enjoying~
1. get creative & iron on the bottom of a shirt. (as shown) or on the back shoulder, or how about overlap & make a whole array of designs on your shirts!

So many fun possibilities when your creative juices are flowing...but, you wouldn't know it unless you just did it! right?

go create something today.
happy weekend!

DIY pRoject No. 7>>>

With my recent sickness, I had so many kind people bring by dinners, goodies & get well wishes. I love our neighborhood!
So, now that I'm feeling better, I owe a lot of people Thank Yous!

But, I need Quick & Easy, ya know? So....No. 7: DIY Summer Project is....these Address Wraps. They are so versatile. You just open up the PDF in Photoshop & simply
1. type out the addresses
2. print out on sticker paper
3. wrap your envelopes in style!

Or....you can add to the front of a Thank You like this:
supplies needed:
1. patterned paper (shown: House of 3 French Oo La La printed on both sides)
2. address wrap download
3. fold paper into an envelope like this>>
4. add written note, pop up greeting...whatever!

5. INSIDE: ~add some of the pop ups to this tag for some dimension, then a personal handwritten note...
6. OUSTIDE: ~add a flower on the flap & wrap the Address Wrap!
7. Address Wrap versatility: I added a thank you on the 'return address area' & typed their names in the 'address area'
8. Printed out on white sticker paper & wrapped around the envelope for a fast, easy & cute Thank You!
Another idea for the Address Wraps:
**Wrap up some brownies in a pastry box, and add the Address Wrap over the opening flap. Embellish with tulle, ribbon, tags, flowers, whatever!
fun, huh?

a special, huge shout out to my dear sister in law, cherie! It's her birthday...Love you, girl!

I love you guys!We have this fantastically charming house near us & every time we drive by I say, "We should just stop by, knock on their door & ask them if we can take pictures!"

bRushes:: digital stamps

The world of digital brushes will change your life. Really!
They are amazing.
Rhonna Designs of digital brushes in our Digital Section.
**note: Not all kits will have the ABR brush files in them, so be sure to read the kit description carefully!**
There’s also a lot of to learn about them.
I don’t overwhelm you, so I’ll start out with the FAQs I’ve been asked many times:
Q: “I downloaded a brush kit & it has both .abr files & .png files?
What’s the difference?”
A: .ABR files are the actual brushes. Adobe Photoshop (PS) & Photoshop Elements (PSE) can support .ABR files. You load them in PS or PSE (more on that later). You can change colors in the Color Box, rotate, space, etc. all in the Brushes Palette.
Not all programs can support the actual .ABR files, so, over at Rhonna Designs, I offer the image sets as .PNG files.
.PNG files can be dragged & dropped over something because they retain their transparent qualities. You can re-color them, too.(another tutorial will follow on that info)  You can not load them as .ABR files, so don’t try it!
But, you can create your own brushes. I.e. You can create your own brushes in older versions of PS or PSE and in Paintshop Pro (PSP), you can create a ‘stamp’ out of the .PNG files.
Notice: If you load the .ABR files, & they say ‘not compatible’, it is because the brushes were created in a newer version of PS and most likely, you are using an older version of PS or PSE. So, you would just need to open up your .PNG files & create your own brushes.(more on that later)
Note: PNG files can work with any program that will support & open PNG files. (word processing programs, photo editing programs, etc.)  Rhonna Designs ABR brush files are ONLY compatible with PSE7+ & PSCS5+. Not compatible with older versions of PSE & PS, hence, the PNG files so you can make your own brushes out of the PNG files.

Q: "I still don’t get it. What are brushes?"
A: Think of the brushes as stamps. You 'dip' your brush/stamp into a color & then brush/stamp/click it onto your digital canvas. All brushes are different designs...some of my brush creations are borders, frames, swirls, alphabets, designs, pictures, shapes, words, etc.

Q: “How do I load my brushes?”
A:  Once you’ve downloaded & unzipped your kit, double click/right click on your ABR brush file & voila! they appear in your Brush Palette at the bottom!
If that doesn’t work:
Select the brush tool on your toolbar in PS or PSE.
Select the arrow on the drop-down Brushes Menu and then select LOAD BRUSHES.
Find your downloaded ABR brush file, then click LOAD.
The new brushes will appear at the bottom of your Brush Palette.

Q: "How can I change colors? "
A: If  you have the ABR brush file loaded, you can simply click on the color box & change the color of your brush/stamp.
If you are using the PNG files, there are various ways to change color.  For a black PNG file, you’ll need to change the black PNG file to a Layer Style/color overlay & you can choose any color you want!
In PS to create a Layer Style:
1. Open your PNG file.
2. Go to LAYER>LAYER STYLE>>COLOR OVERLAY.
Select the Color desired.
Note:This method will give a flat color. You will lose all texture or patterns, unless you use the Light Modes to Blend the color.

Q: "What can I do with Brushes?"
A: Design, create, explore. Let's say you have a swirl that you want to stamp onto your Christmas card, or photo, or blog banner. You choose blue, but you may want it to be subtle underneath the greeting/photo/text.  So, you create a New Layer, then click/stamp the brush in blue.  You can adjust the Opacity to make it appear like vellum...a soft look. Then, on another New Layer, you'd click/stamp the brush in blue, pink or another color on top of it & you'd have a very interesting look!
This is how I create most of my art.  All the brush work you see in my art is done on separate layers, colors & adjusting the Opacity to make it interesting!
Q: "How can I make my own brush?"
A: This is another amazing part of the world of brushes!  You can make a brush out of anything you want! ...a photo you've taken, your signature, a drawing you've made...etc!  This also works for those that use an older version of PS of PSE that is not 'compatible'' with the brushes I sell. ( I create in PSCS3 & so the brush files are only compatible with PSE6+ or PSCS+ as noted above.)
Creating Brushes:
Open your image to create your brush. (photos, PNG, whatever) Go to SELECT>ALL.
Go to EDIT>DEFINE BRUSH. Name your brush when the box prompts you.  Voila! You've created a brush!  **This doesn’t mean your brush is saved. You may still lose it unless you save it.
Saving Brushes:
1. Select your Brush Palette. Notice the arrow.
Select the arrow & you will see the drop down menu.
2. Here, you will see where you can Reset, Load, Save, & Replace your brushes.
Hit Save & you’ve saved your brush.
There’s tons more to the world of brushes, but this is a start.

DIY pRoject No. 3>>>

...takin' a break from decoRating...but pRoject No. 3 has been going full force around here:

The strawberries have looked so delicious around here, we decided to get going on our annual freezer jam fest. J helped me & passed off a goal in her Personal Progress book...it was so fun. fast. & easy!!!

Steps:
1. wash, cut & puree strawberries.
2. add 1 1/2 c. of sugar to 1 envelope of Freezer Jam Pectin. Follow directions.
3. ladle into jars. top off with cute labels!

And of course, to top off our whole sha*bang, we added these cute labels to the jars.

Just print it out on white sticker paper to adhere directly to the jars, OR print out on cardstock for tags if you're giving as a gift....somethin' fun! enjoy!
enjoy your DIY Summer Project series!

.....and House of 3 is gearin' up for a super cool Summer *Boredom Buster* Project, too! Did you get the email newsletter? If not, be sure to sign up...we'll be tellin' you about it more!

June 1. DIY Summer project.

June. 1. I'm into this....
as I updated...
nothing was safe. I'm having way too much fun re-purposing items around the house!

so...without further ado...here are the pieces we've done. **Some will be used in T's room makeover..some will just be for me! he!he!**

I love the rad, sleek look of white glossy home decor...loved the shape of this finial, but not the colors...so, white spray paint to the rescue!

This little red cupcake stand is sooo cute. I've had it in my studio with little inspiration pieces under the glass.
But I wanted a little *update*...so, Raspberry spray paint & HS Jewels to the resuce....
Link
can't *wait* to put a cupcake in it! mmmm! so cute with the bling...
repurposed creativity...lovin' it!
how are you doing on your DIY Summer Project series?

p.s. check out the House of 3 Bags we are giving way here, at our new blog!
