cReative Team Tuesday:: DIY magnets w/ Rhonna Designs

Ok, you KNOW how fabulous my cReative Team is, right? Well, today check out what Melissa Mortenson of the Polka Dot Chair has created w/ Rhonna Designs: DIY magnets!

Aren't you LOVING them!? So brilliant! Ok, so she created them as a reverse stencil using vinyl cut from her Silhouette Cameo. Then just mod podged with paper to the back and some magnets added. 

....and what a WOW factor! I love how cReative this project is!!!! For more info on this project, pop on over to her blog HERE!

and boy is it!  I've been MIA with traveling, journeying, etc. And I've loved it all. Summer has kicked in full swing & we've already had many fun times! 


This week is filled with some fab things....secret little get aways *wink*...creative time....LIVE webshow on Wednesday with House of 3 & Silhouette...NEW stuff going up on House of 3 (hint: the above graphic has something to do with it) ....one on one time with my kids....just havin' fun every. day.

I can't believe it's already Wednesday...I've been playin 'catch up' since our week break last week! love it!
so, tonight is the 1st in a series of 3: Get Silhouette Savvy: our House of 3 + Silhouette webshows: 'out of the box'.

Come & join Janet (in TX) & me, Heidi & Kerri in UT for a night filled with eye opening tips & tricks on how YOU can pull your Silhouette out of the box & get started...without making all the mistakes we made! LOL!

Spring Junque is HERE!

(kits used: Spring Junque Banner & Circle Seals: print. cut. hang.)

Oh my goodness...I'm on a cReative high right now....& it's even a caffeine free one! woot!

It all started with the release of my ALL time fave House of 3 line: Spring Junque! THEN, my Creativity Exercise today was:

66. CREATIVITY QUESTIONS:: What kind of surprise can I include in this project?

today's been all about creative surprises...I'm having so much fun!


I started out making the NEW Spring Junque banners. I printed out the tiny ones on the PDF Printable of this kit: it's a BONUS & it looks like this:


Then, I added all sorts of goodies from the printable Banners & Garlands as seen up above. And, I'm having a ball with the NEW Silhouette shapes that I just put in their store: Easter was cut out with the Silhouette on manilla file folder & then, I took Glimmer Mist to it...I even got into it with my eggs...I'll show you the results as I continue creating.

Silhouette & Mac Tutorial

it's a beautiful combination because I love my Mac.
But for now, it's a little different than a PC use with the Silhouette.

I promised some help to you fellow Mac lovers. So, here we go:
**NOTE: For now, in order to use your Silhouette with a Mac, you have to use it with a plug-in through Adobe Illustrator.

1. Get your Silhouette hooked up.
a. take the tape off of the inside, on outside, etc.
b. put the tip on the blade (see instruction guide on that.)
c. plug in the USB connection.
d. install this link for the Adobe Illustrator free plug in. It's called CM2 Craft Robo V1. 1.6_Mac.

2. Get your paper ready. (vellum, cardstock, vinyl, etc.)
a. take the middle protector page off the middle of the cutting mat so the tacky part is showing.
b. stick your paper on the left side corner guidelines. make sure there are no bubbles, etc.

3. Put in machine.
a. Push power button. It'll say: load w/ carrier
b. line it up on the left guidelines & hit ENTER. it will feed it in.

4. Open up Illustrator to cut out fonts or dingbats.
a. Open up a new file by going to: FILE>NEW & select an 8x5 x 11 canvas.

b. Select your Type Tool. ('T') And type in your dingbat image or letters. You can adjust the size by just changing the Point Size.

Here, I've used a 300 pt. House of 3 Dingbat font. If you aren't familiar with Dingbat fonts, it's super easy. Each letter is associated with an image rather than a letter.

So, with our House of 3 Dingbat font, The bird is 'a', flourish is 'f', swirl is 'h', flower is 'i' & fabulous is 'T'.
The great thing about this is: you just type in each letter & move it around to make it so your 8.5x11 canvas has these fab designs to cut. (this is quick. but you can even go in & do smaller ones to fill up all the space so you don't waste any paper, vinyl, etc.)

c. Go to: FILE>CUTTING MASTER 2> CUT/PLOT

This window will pop up & you'll see the design.
This is where you will select the General settings. See the Job Size? This is where you control the size...you can adjust the arrows up & down & see the preview in the image.

Also, note the 'Position'. The is where you can actually position the images on the cutting space. Love this!

d. Now, for adjusting the paper & cutting. Go to Layering.

You'll notice this is where you can select the medium you are cutting on. This will take some getting used to...finding what setting is best for what medium. Trust me..I've gone through a lot of paper, so just experiment & have fun!

One tip Kerri gave us: She always selects 2 passes. This means it cuts twice & it works like a dream!

e. hit SEND. & it will cut it.

so....hope this helps all my Mac friends! For now, the Online store can't be accessed through our lovely Macs, either...but with all of the FAB House of 3 art in the Dingbat fonts...you've got a TON of images to work with!

If you have Illo, and Silhouette, and Mac & are still frustrated...I'm here to help. We Mac*ies gotta stick togethah. *wink*

I had TONS of people ask me at CHA if I really use it & love it THAT much....the answer is YES.
I do.
I don't talk about products I don't use & love myself. end of story.
I believe in this product. I use it. I create with it.

I've been super busy since my vacay in the sun! Workin' on new projects & one of my faves was a 'helping Haiti' collaborative kit that will be GREAT! I'll give you more detes as they arrive....for now, we've been praying for all. At times like this, my heart is full of gratitude.

Owner of Dear Lizzie, Laura Jarman, is a sheer creative genius in my opinion. She has the Midas Touch...everything she touches just turns to gold....her Boutique, Bistro, Lizzie Luxe Clothing department & now she's adding another amazing piece to her inspiring package: the Lizzie Workshop Series. I've been delighted to be a part of it & work with Karli, Rosie & everyone there!....

& now....registration is OPEN!

Check out the February Calendar with classes on Thursday evenings...& the fab Lizzie Late Night on Monday night...late! so fun!

Which brings me to....

New Class: Another Let's Brush Up digital design class will be offered in this Winter Workshop series on Thursday, Feb. 25 from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. This will be done a bit differently than the previous class I did back in November. Important tidbits:
1. Register by calling Dear Lizzie: 801.492.0022

2. No Laptops needed. I'll be offering a more advanced class later on where you'll bring your laptops, but it will be a smaller group than we had before. For this class, we will have the 20 people maximum....you'll be sitting at the darling tables in the Bistro, sippin' your drinks...enjoying Dear Lizzie treats & watching me on the big screen! This way we will be able to accommodate all of the Intermediate Beginners who want to learn the ins & outs of Digital Brushes.

3. HUGE Brush CD will be included. Remember the fab kit last time? I told you it was 'exclusive' right? Well, I didn't lie! LOL! YOU were the ONLY class that will ever have those brushes. AND for this NEW class, YOU will be the ONLY one to get the 100 exclusive digital brushes on CD. Class kit will be a step out again...printed AND in PDF form on your CD. cool, huh?
